Phyllis Akinyi is a Danish-Kenyan dancer, choreographer, performance artist, and dance researcher based between Madrid and Copenhagen. She works within the realm of flamenco and has spent many years researching and highlighting its African and diasporic expressions
Growing up in both Southern California and the Bay Area, Caro is a bit of a musical quilt and a musical reflection of the diverse multi-culturalism of the state in which she grew up. She has performed in a wide variety of venues as a vocalist and percussionist. With over 27 years as a professional musician she has toured domestically and internationally, recorded, played in music festivals, street fairs, played for ceremonies, in theaters productions, cathedrals, clubs and charity events.

Choreographer Ron De Jesus returns to his roots in a collaboration with Ensemble Español, the company that introduced him to a career he never planned on. De Jesus’ piece, entitled “Mil Clavos” (1,000 Nails), is a fiery, dynamic blend of the modern/contemporary shapes and staging that are now his forte, and the rapid-fire footwork and passionate character of flamenco
This Flamenco contemporary work, set on five couples of Ensemble Español Company dancers by artistic director, Irma Suárez Ruiz, portrays the hidden passions of love and desire. Ruiz set this sensual work to two songs by the all-female electronic string quartet, Escala: “Requiem for a Tower” and “Palladio”
